Alpha Helix Advises Royal United Hospitals Bath Trust on the acquisition of Circle Hospital, Bath (now called Sulis Hospital Bath)

Alpha Helix Corporate Finance, the UK Healthcare focussed lower/mid-market advisors, are delighted to announce the completion of the acquisition of Circle Hospital Bath by RUH Bath NHS Trust. Alpha Helix worked on behalf of RUH as exclusive buy-side corporate finance advisors on the deal.

Following the acquisition of BMI Healthcare by Circle Health, Circle Health came to an agreement with the CMA (competition markets authority) to divest their hospital in Bath. Barclay's were appointed the monitoring trustee.

Alpha Helix worked with the board of trustees of RUH Bath and the senior management team to put forward an initial offer to acquire Sulis Hospital. AHCF worked with management to create a proposal to take to the board of the trust as well as NHS England Improvement to give the transaction the green light.

Following a very competitive process RUH Bath acquired Sulis Hospital Bath on 1st June 2021 for an undisclosed sum.

RUH Chief Executive Cara Charles-Barks said: "We have a long-standing positive relationship with Sulis Hospital Bath, which provided significant support in caring for elective and cancer patients early in the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a really positive next step for us to take together and we're really pleased to welcome Sulis staff to our RUH family.

Acquiring Sulis Hospital Bath will allow us to increase the number of NHS patients we treat, whilst maintaining high quality care for both private and NHS patients. We'll be investing in the future of Sulis Hospital Bath for the benefit of our community."

The Alpha Helix team was led by Gordon Hamilton, MD, and assisted by Bettina Salomon.

Gordon Hamilton commented: ‘AHCF is proud to have advised The RUH Bath NHS Trust on their acquisition of Sulis Hospital Bath. We wish the team at both hospitals all the success in the future".
